Field Trip

20 years ago there was this amazingly beautiful lake, named Lake GuiGui in France. It was known for it beautiful crystal clear blue water, it was one of the cleanest lake in the world. It was just a tourist attraction; no one was allowed to enter the lake in order for it not to get dirty.
After 2 years passed 2 young boys decided to pass security and enter the lake. As soon as they entered the lake the mysteriously died and drowned. The police said that they were shocked with a huge electrical current and died instantly. Each day less and less people came to see the lake. After another 2 years passed the lake mysteriously dried out and was just dirt. Scientist and polices could not explain what happened and it still remains a mystery till now.

Ambush/The Man I Killed

Tim O’Brien tells the Man I Killed in a first person point of view. He knows many details as he remembers every single bit of his past history when he killed the man, still regretting it till today. He has always regretted killing that man, knowing that he should have never killed him, but his actions can never be undone.

Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong

Mary Anne is transformed into a killer is because of the amount of time she spends in Vietnam. The wild is what made her a killer, it took out her inner cruelty. She came in like a normal woman and represented home, but the more time she spend in Vietnam during the war, the more it changed her. She became the war. No, in this situation it doesn’t matter whether it’s a male or a female, because it could happen to anyone.
I think he lets Rat Kiley to tell part of the story because he would have a different point of view, he might know the story better, and he might exaggerate the story I little bit. Yes Rat Kiley story does fit O’Brien’s criteria of a true war story.

Spin

I think that this quote means that they were fighting for peace in the war and it hurt so much to get it back. I think that the solders wanted to change their own live, they didn’t want to fight, they just wanted to be home with their family, and it hurt that they knew they could never have it. I also think it means how he can be feeling peace when there is so much death around him. This shows that the soldier's idea of peace can be different from mine.

War Letters

Dear Mom,
How are you? How is the whole family doing since I left? It’s been a month since I have joined the army and to be frank with you I am a little scared. It has been a little fun but very scary. About 2 weeks a go one of the soldiers was shot and killed on enemy ground floor. I am really missing you and the whole family a lot. Everyday I keep on counting the days when I can go back home. I have received all of your mails and I am having a lot of fun and enjoying reading them. I really miss you hope to have time to send you more mails in the near future.
Love,
Sharan
I choose to send the letter to my mom, because she has always been the more overprotective between both my parents. She has always been a great mother and I know she would be worrying how am I doing away from her. I chose to tell her this information because incase she heard anything on the news she would no it wasn’t me and would not get even more worried than what she already is. Yes, some information that I think is best for her not to know I wouldn’t tell her for her own good.

The Things They Carried

I carry many things with me wherever I go. Two of them out of the many are my iPod and my phone. My iPod means my past. As I grew up my taste in music has changed a lot. When I listen to music I forget my surroundings and I forget all the people around me. When I listen to music it takes me to a whole other dimension. Another very important thing that I carry with me wherever I go is my phone. My phone is a way of communication, research and time. I use my phone for everything and it lets me be in touch with my friends and family. These two items entertains me and I take them everywhere.
